The September 11, 2001 attacks often referred to as 9/11—pronounced "nine eleven") consisted of coordinated terrorism. The September 11 attacks were described by the United Nations Security Council as "horrifying terrorist attacks", Security Council Condemns, 'In Strongest Terms' Terrorist Attacks on the United States, (United Nations, September 12, 2001) [1] by Islamic extremists on the United States of America.[2]
