Wikipedia makes what appears to be an arbitrary distinction between self awareness and self consciousness to deal with the contrast in meanings between self-consciousness as a negative social experience and a positive attribute of being human. See their article Self-awareness and Self-consciousness. I will do some research on this and compose an alternative.--rdavis 23:15, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
