Shame and guilt are words that often are synonymous in many people's book, but guilt is that which one feels because of external circumstances, because of mores, conditions imposed from the outside. Shame, on the other hand, is that which the individual feels personally and does often play a greater role in a person's inward experience of having erred. Harboring either one of these for any extension of time creates blockages.
