Description

Editing is the process of selecting and preparing written, visual, audible and film media used to convey information. The editing process can involve correction, condensation, organization, and other modifications performed with an intention of producing a correct, consistent, accurate and complete work.

The editing process often begins with an author's idea for the work itself, continuing as a collaboration between the author and the editor as the work is created. As such, editing can involve creative skills, human relations and a precise set of methods.

The functions of an Editor are manifest in the close relation to Education, L. edu-care, to lead forth from within. However, where education entails a discretely personal i.e. spiritual process, the function of 'editing' enjoins this spiritual dimension to the material through the unique versatility of mind in acts of identification, development, and production of work for the benefit of the world-the greater public whose state of mind is the real 'constitution' of the advancing citizens who compose any re-public.

From Latin editionem - nominative; editio ‘a bringing forth, producing’, from stem of edere, ‘bring forth, produce’, from ex-, ‘out’ + -dere, combining form of dare, ‘to give’.[1]
