Michael,

You will note that I have now set up the Index page along with the required categorization to make it part of the larger category entitled The Teachings of Jesus while a link to the Index appears now on the Title Page of TOJ as well. Before further work on these details, let's revisit the methodology of the project as it relates to this first (alphabetically) topic.

It appears as though these questions are rhetorical devices used by Jesus to motivate his followers than questions posed to him by seekers of truth. Also, while the literal word 'acceptance' appears in the first reference, the discourse does not seem to relate well to what is generally regarded as the 'topic' of acceptance. As for the second discourse, the term itself does not appear nor is it easy to identify the teaching as related to acceptance as much as it does to the cultural inertia of tradition.

What do you think?

Rob,

Questions of both kinds were used, and it's a first draft. I'm delighted to revisit and revise. While the text is pretty finely tuned, the index is but a rough draft. I'm going through the text again at present, and then intend to work through the index from start to finish. If you had a hankering to take a crack at the index, that would be cool. What are your thoughts on the problems you've pointed out above?

In relation to the pages you created for the Topical Index I think there terrific. I wonder if the links you created in the questions might be better placed in the text to keep the questions clean and simple, with only the link at the end to the text. Also, some indication at the beginning of each question, either a number, a dash, or something visual to show it's a new question might be helpful.

What do you think?

ground rules

Hello Michael-

First, I want to say how great it is that we have this project to work on! I am enjoying it more and more, and no doubt we will have to make some decisions about the rules to follow as we proceed with formatting the work in the best manner.

I had, as you suggested, put numbers in some of the other entries just to compare how it looks with or without, but I am agreed that they are helpful. As for internal links on the site, we may need to talk this over by phone as it may be necessary to reach some sort of compromise between what any good wiki should feature and the desire for an elegant simplicity that is uncluttered by additional references. Otherwise, the more important and perhaps elemental question is what do we do to feature questions posed to Jesus in search of answers and his own rhetorical questions posed to followers to underscore a particualr point?

We should both give the matter some thought and plan to speak by phone soon.

Gratefully,

Rob

p.s. when replying on the talk (or discussion pages) remember to use the 'signature' feature to log not just your name, but the time and date automatically. The signature 'tab' is the second from the right next to the '----' tab.

Hello Rob,

I agree, what a wonderful thing to work on, I'm very grateful.

What do you think of this idea? We could make two sections in the index? One for the rhetorical questions Jesus used in his teachings, and the other for the questions posed to him in search of answers?

Let's talk on the phone today, if possible.

Thanks,

Michael

Hello Again MIchael-

I am sorry to have missed your call today, but I was preoccupied with filing for an extension for the 2007 Income Tax Return. In any event, it would appear that your recommendation is one we should give serious consideration as it would clarify the focus for general readers.

Tomorrow I have an appointment in the morning, and then I may travel to Charlotte for the day, but I will give you a call early afternoon.

Looking forward,

Rob

We should revisit this as a topic and populate accordingly.--rdavis 15:21, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
